Marvel DC crossover movie: ‘More likely than ever Avengers will star with Justice League’ | Films | Entertainment

Yesterday, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn was announced as the co-chair and co-CEO of the newly formed DC Studios with producer Peter Safran. The director is already at work on Peacemaker season 2 and will now head up the DC Universe, formally known as the DC Extended Universe at Warner Bros. Fans are more hopeful than ever that a crossover will finally happen, especially given what he and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige have said about the idea.

Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman simply tweeted: “A DC/Marvel crossover is more possible than ever now.”

Comic book movie fans pointed out that when The Suicide Squad was released Gunn confessed to Collider: “I’ve actually talked about that to the heads of both Marvel and DC, but, you know, it’s like, they — you know, everybody’s open to everything, but whether anything would ever happen, who knows? But the idea of being able to bring Marvel and DC together in a movie is, that would be really fun for me.”

Despite the possible legal complications of bringing both worlds together, Gunn added: “I know it’s exciting for even the heads of Marvel and DC to think about, Kevin Feige over at Marvel and Toby Emmerich over at Warner Bros. You know, it’s something we all like to dream about. Whether we could ever get through the barrage, the Berlin Wall of lawyers we would need to get through to ever make something like that happen, I don’t know, but it would be a blast.”

Additionally, the MCU chief has admitted he’s certainly open to the idea too. Given his working relationship with Gunn and the multiverse direction both studios are heading in, this would make a lot of sense narratively too.

Feige previously told Comic Book: “Well, look, my standard answer to things are ‘never say never.’ I never thought we’d get this far.”

Although oddly added: “James has not brought that up, James is deep in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which will begin filming before the end of this year. And having finished the spectacular The Suicide Squad and selling that movie, he is well underway of prep on Guardians 3 now.”

Still, a fan tweeted: “Kevin Feige said ‘never say never’ to a Marvel and DC crossover. Now James Gunn is DC Studios President  Will we ever see The Avengers with The Justice League!?”

Dwayne Johnson, who used his producing power to bring back Henry Cavill’s Superman in a Black Adam cameo, certainly believes they can make it work between the two studios to unite the two superhero teams for an epic.

The Rock told Variety recently: “Well, I’m always optimistic. I’d like to think that we would see that. My philosophy is anything can get done. Let’s start with the end goal. And if the end goal is to have some sort of crossover that can be compelling, smart, cool for the fans,” Johnson said. “Let’s get a temperature gauge if they’d like to see something like that. And then if they do, then let’s create it. I operate my businesses like that. I truly believe that anything can happen. Anything can happen with the right people and place, and the right leadership, having the right conversations.”
